Saturday 7th April saw the annual running of
the Saleyards Dash by the Bendigo Car Club. This year the club was
lucky to have a number of sponsors come on board for the event,
these being Innes Motors Honda and Subaru, Auto Addiction Bendigo,
Krutop Media Productions and Castrol Oils. As a result the event
was largely advertised with an advertising budget available with
advertising both on television, as well as local papers and flyers
distributed to various business houses in the Bendigo Area. This
saw a record number of entries as word quickly spread with a field
of just over 70.
There were a total of
7 tests in all on the day, these being demonstrated to all the
competitors before each run by the course car, a new Subaru XV
supplied by Innes Motors. Racing was close all day with the
specials setting the best times but the sedans occassionally
sneaking in a quick time and taking the best run for that course.
At the end of the day, the specials had managed to hold their own
and take out the top places. A trophy presentation followed
immediately after the event with awards being presented as
follows:
1st Outright
and Class D - Michael Exell, Honda Special
2nd Outright -
Aaron Wuillemin, W-003 Special
3rd Ouright -
Blair Jones, Toyota Special
1st Bendigo Car Club member - John Hardiman,
WRX
1st Class A and
1st Lady - Marlene Nixon, Nissan March
1st Class B -
Damien Wilson, Datsun 180B
1st Class C -
Duncan Sides, Datsun 260Z
1st Junior -
Kian Heagney, Hyundai Excel
A very popular award
amongst the officials of the meeting and decided by the organising
committee was the "Official of the meet" - Michael Elvey. Mick went
above and beyond with his help during this event and it was much
appreciated by the Club.
The Club and the
Organising Committee would like to thank all the Competitors and
Officials for making the event such as success. We will be back
again next year and hope to make the event bigger and better next
time around and look forward to seeing you all at the Bendigo
Livestock Exchange next Easter. A very big thanks again to our
sponsors.
